Heat from the air, no boiler room, no chimney

An air-to-water heat pump heats the house and the water. We start by calculating the building’s heat loss, so the pump is neither too small for frost nor too big for the rest of the year.

Energy flow

One system, one flow of power

Panels produce during the day, the house takes what it needs and the heat pump and air conditioning use the surplus. Less power goes back to the grid for pennies.

  1. Sun

About 1,000 kWh from every kWp of panels a year on a south-facing roof.

  2. Solar PV

Turns light into electricity. The inverter makes sure the house uses it first.

  3. House

Uses power as it comes: fridge, washing machine, chargers. The surplus moves on instead of going to the grid for pennies.

  4. Heat pump

Turns 1 kWh of electricity into 3-4 kWh of heat for underfloor heating and hot water.

  5. Air conditioning

In summer it cools exactly when the panels produce the most. In winter it can add heat.

What are we calculating?

We add 4,000 kWh a year for the heat pump. How much you save on your current heating we work out at the audit, because it depends on what you heat with today.

Which way does the roof face?

Roof facing south: 1,000 kWh per kWp a year

Estimated saving in the first year

about PLN 6,280

System
18 panels, 8.1 kWp
Production
8,100 kWh a year
Covers
approx. 73% of the bill including the heat pump
Over 10 years
about PLN 70,300

An estimate, not a quote. The result depends on shading, the roof pitch and when during the day you use power. We work it out precisely at the audit.

Cumulative saving: how much you keep after each year (rising electricity prices, ageing panels)
Cumulative saving year by year
After year 1PLN 6,300
After year 2PLN 12,700
After year 3PLN 19,300

After year 6PLN 40,100
After year 7PLN 47,400
After year 8PLN 54,800
After year 9PLN 62,500
After year 10PLN 70,300

Annual consumption comes from your bill and the electricity price. The system is sized to produce roughly what the house uses over a year. Energy used straight away counts at the purchase price, surplus sent to the grid at the selling price, and the saving never exceeds the bill. We do not include the cost of the system or grants: that depends on the quote after the audit.

Electricity prices change, so we update the assumptions in the website dashboard and the calculator uses the new ones straight away.

Projects

Heat pump projects

The projects are samples (the company is fictional) and the photos show the type of installation, not a specific house.

All projects

Process

Five weeks from audit to heat

Sizing takes the longest. The installation itself is 2-3 days.

  1. Week 1

    Audit and heat loss

We calculate how much heat the house loses, check the radiators or underfloor heating and where the outdoor unit can stand.

  2. Week 2

    Sizing and quote

We size the pump and the hot water tank to your house, not to the biggest model in the catalogue.

  3. Week 3

    Grant application

We prepare the paperwork, including proof that the old boiler is gone if the programme requires it.

  4. Week 4

    Installation in 2-3 days

Base for the outdoor unit, plumbing and wiring. We remove and take away the old boiler.

  5. Week 5

    Commissioning

We set the heating curve and show you how to control the pump from your phone.

Questions

Heat pump questions

Will a heat pump work in an older house?

Often yes, but we start by calculating heat loss. With radiators we check whether they are enough at a lower water temperature. Sometimes it is better to insulate the loft first and then fit a smaller pump.

Air source or ground source?

In houses around Masovia we mostly fit air-to-water pumps: they cost less and need no drilling. We suggest ground source for a large house on a plot where drilling is possible.

How much electricity does a heat pump use?

In a house of about 150 m², usually 3000-5000 kWh a year. That is why it pairs well with solar panels; the calculator on this page includes this consumption.

Is the outdoor unit loud?

New units run quieter than normal conversation. We place them away from bedroom windows and the plot boundary, on a base that dampens vibration.

What happens to the old boiler?

We remove it and take it away. If the grant programme requires proof of removal, we prepare the document.

Grants

We handle the grant paperwork

Solar panels and heat pumps can currently be co-funded by grant programmes and a thermal retrofit tax relief. The rules and amounts change every few months, so we do not promise them here: at the audit we check what applies to you, and we fill in the application ourselves.

  1. We check which programmes you qualify for
  2. We fill in the application and collect the attachments
  3. We keep track of the settlement deadlines

Free on-site audit

We will come over, calculate the heat loss and check the radiators. No fees and no commitment; we will call you back to book a date.

Halny Energia is the data controller. We will use your details only to book the audit and delete them after 7 days if no contract is signed. Privacy policy
